About Rafael Saenz

Rafa is a visual artist and muralist who was born and raised in Madrid. In 2007 he decided to take a three-month vacation to San Francisco to explore the city's unique art & music scene- 13 years later he's still here.

Since living here, Rafa co-founded an artist collective called Debuti, whose primary focus is creating indoor and outdoor murals and designs for companies all around the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Their client list is broad, from larger Tech companies like Facebook, to start-ups like Angelist and Relativity to trendy night clubs like Monarch. Although their work primarily consists of murals- they pretty much can create anything-  -they've made a  7-foot chocolate Christmas tree for a company's holiday party as well as a shopping cart-chopper for a client's art car for Burning Man. They even designed a hardware box for an edgy tech company calle Akash. You name it, they'll create it.

Recently, Rafa started making his own Neon signs that are influenced by the 80s and the Memphis movement.  He has made several sculptures and different projects mixing paint, neon, and custom wooden shelves with geometric shapes, mostly for private customers and local businesses.

Rafa has been deeply affected by Covid-19; he unfortunately lost his daytime job and had many art projects canceled. On the bright side, he has taken advantage of the situation and invested all that 'free' time in making more art, cooking more, and making more music, which is his other great passion, DJing and producing under the alias BA.RS.
