About Yasmin Hussein
Yasmin (b. London 1994) is an artist, educator, and curator working in San Francisco, CA. Inspired by the raw and animated imaginations of her young students, she utilizes kitschy materials and craft processes to address topics like misogyny, sexism, gender expression, and mental health. She is interested in the inherent meanings assigned to certain materials and how they can be appropriated to ignite intimate feelings and memories.
Artist Statement
My current solo show, SWEET & LOW, was supposed to open at Adobe Books on March 21st but was cancelled due to COVID-19. I completed the install and hope to host a closing reception one day soon though it's feeling quite possible no one will get to view my work in person. Also Adobe Books (a cooperative art space located in the mission for 30 years) is also really struggling due to forced closures. Any online support during this time would be amazing and so appreciated.
