About Nicole Maria Dance

Nicole Maria is a Bay Area-based bellydance teacher, choreographer, soloist and performer. She demonstrated a musical desire at an early age, leading her to study a variety of dance forms including ballet, modern, jazz, Latin dance and Persian dance, as well as folkloric and contemporary dances from North Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans.

Nicole received her B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Archaeology with a minor in World Music from San Francisco State University. She has always been interested in the intersection of culture and dance and the study of dance in its sociocultural context. As a performer, she is interested in portraying both contemporary and traditional forms of Middle Eastern dance as well as dances from Turkey and the Balkans.

Artist Statement

I have lost all of my work due to COVID-19. Before the shelter-in-place was in order, I was performing regularly (between 5 and 10 shows per week) in the San Francisco Bay Area. Everywhere I perform is now shut down, and some of the businesses will not survive this.
